There’s Always Time for Tea Color Blocking – A Nice Cuppa

450pxl A Nice Cuppa - Color Block Tea Cups

One more fond farewell to the A Nice Cuppa design from our recent Local BZB Hive Happening Event.  This stamp set is a love it or leave it.  Lol!  I must confess that I was on the “leave it” side.  THEN when I was asked to help design “wow” make-n-takes for our local event I went all out.  My design thoughts went to “outside the box” and I think this color blocking on the card base as well as the stamped image make for a striking effect.  Give a “honk” if you think so.  [grin]

This is Make-n-Take #1 of 3 and my second event display sample post featuring the A Nice Cuppa stamp set.

BASE:  The color palette I chose to work with for these Make-n-Take designs was Bermuda Bay, Melon, Mambo and Wisteria Wonder.  So I started with Wisteria Wonder for the base.  Then Basic Black blocks layered with Bermuda Bay and Melon Mambo.  I just love me a small (16″) reveal, it just frames everything nicely!  I will honestly say the only thing that would have made this even better would be Textured Cardstock for the Bermuda Bay and Melon Mambo……just sayin’.  Lol!

TRI-COLORED TEA CUP:  My upline shared a video showing this fun stamp masking technique by JoAnne James.  I won’t lie that I was a little scared and skeptical to try this technique.  But you know me, I pulled up my big girl panties and gave it a go.  Lol!  OMGosh!  It turned out pretty darn good on my first attempt.  I did have small gaps between the colors, but I thought I had touched the Wisteria Wonder and Bermuda Bay ink pads to the edged of the Melon Mambo ink.  My next attempt was a success.  Woohoo!  [IMPORTANT TIP:  Make sure to clean the stamp after EACH stamping so you don’t get the other two ink colors on your Melon Mambo ink pad.]

FINISHING TOUCH:  I stamped the tea cups directly onto the Whisper White rectangle, so I was not able to tape the tea bag tag to the back of the top cup.  So……I improvised and broke out my X-acto knife and made a small slice at the top right edge of the cup.  Just enough to press a wee bit of Black Baker’s Twine through and tape to the back.  I love making the Envelope Punch Board a multi-tasker! I used the corner rounding punch at the top of the punch board to easily round the corners of the rectangles.  Woohoo!!!  THEN I layered the Whisper White rectangle onto the Basic Black rectangle.  It did need height so I popped this will Stampin’ Dimensionals.  [cheeky grin]  Finally, I stamped “and you” onto Whisper White with Melon Mambo ink and hand cut, then layered that into Basic Black and hand cut it as well with that narrow 1/16″ reveal.  After playing with the twine to place into a pretty loop I glued small areas of the twine with my Fine Tip Glue Pen and popped the tag with a piece of Stampin’ Dimensional.

While this stamp set had not been on my radar, when I was asked to design with the A Nice Cuppa stamp set and Cups & Kettle Framelits for our recent BZB Hive Happening team gathering I purchased them and when to designing.  We were thrown for a loop when we found they were on the “Retiring List”.  [The “A Nice Cuppa” stamp set is available only thru May 31, 2016]  But, we were committed and I think the designs I created gave (I hope) a lot of inspiration for those who already have either or both items.  I have a few more I will posting soon.

I hope you enjoyed today’s color blocking design.  Thank you so much for stopping by.  Have a great Friday and weekend!  Woohoo!!!
