So Many Sparkly Stars

So Many Sparkly Stars

I enjoy taking a stamp set and creating something completely unexpected. As I was perusing the new 2019 Holiday Inspiration Catalog. I fell in love with the So Many Stars stamp set. The catalog inspirations shown are geared towards the Christmas Holiday Season. Today’s share “So Many Sparkly Stars” is my outside-the-box take on the So Many Stars stamp set

EMBELLISHMENT: With fall having arrived here in the Northwest my creative juices were leaning toward Halloween. I was trying out the Shimmer Black Emboss Powder. After embossing and die cutting the swirls & stars, the sparkly black look made me giddy. I then wanted something to pop against the black, Granny Apple Green jumped out at me.

I was looking to add more shine and decided to spritz the Granny Apple Green with a mixture of Frost Shimmer Paint and rubbing alcohol. [Perfect!!!] After cutting the same swirls & stars I started layering onto a band of Basic Black. I loved the look. At this point I had an embellishment that needed a home. Lol!

BASE: Layering the embellishment onto the Granny Apple Green layer made the stars pop. [Sweet!] Well……what goes great with black and green ……purple! When I pared this embellishment with Gorgeous Grape I did my happy chair dance. To add the finishing touch I gave the new Scripty Emboss Folder a try. OMGosh! This emboss folder is THE BOMB! It was the perfect subtle background. What do you think?

SENTIMENT: To finish the design it needed a sentiment. I had leftover spritzed Granny Apple Green and decided to use it. Looking at the sentiments included in the So Many Stars stamp set I felt “the stars are shining brightly” would be the perfect fit. I was strong and ended up cutting apart the full sentiment “O, holy night, the stars are shining brightly” and embossed it in plain black. Finally another cool item in the new 2019 Holiday Inspiration Catalog are “black” dimensionals. WHAT? Yes, there are now black dimensionals to use with dark designs so you hardly see them. I used them on the green stars and the sentiment. Woohoo!

Here’s what I used: STAMP: So Many Stars; PAPER: Gorgeous Grape, Granny Apple Green, Basic Black; INK: VersaMark; ACCESSORIES: Dies–Stitched Stars |Emboss Folder–Scripty 3D| Punch–1-1/2″ Circle | Emboss Powder–Shimmer Black & Black

When I had finished my design I showed it to a friend and she said “hey, it has a “wicked” feel.” I didn’t even see that. Very cool! I’d love to hear if you thought I hit the “wicked” feel OR if you love the “Scripty” emboss folder like I do.

Thank you for stopping by today! I hope you’re inspired to get your fingers inky. Have a great day!

“Hello You Thinlits” Flowers

450pxl Hello You Thinlits Flowers

Good Friday morning!  I can’t believe there are only 7 sleeps before Christmas.  Woohoo!!!  I’m looking forward to spending time with family and friends between now and then.  [grin]

Today’s card is from the “you just never know when inspiration will hit” pile.  Lol!  In October’s Card Class we made a card using the “Hello” from the Hello You Thinlits Die Set.  As people started making this card they left the “bits” from the looped areas on the table.  Yes, looped areas is a professional term.  Lol!  I just love when you can make use of the “bits” I always seem to have lying around and just can’t let go of.  Woohoo!

CARD BASE:  The base is Vellum cardstock.  The inside and front are layers Basic Black and Pink Pirouette.  [TIP: The card inside layers are an 1/8″ of an inch smaller so they won’t show from the front.]  You will find out how I choose Vellum below.

FOCAL POINT:  Yes, they are bits leftover from the Hello You Thinlits in Black Glimmer “Hello”.    I was standing there talking during and started playing with the “bits” and they came together into this very black sparkly flower shape.  Sweet!  They, of course, needed centers and I tested lots of options and then I remembered I had just gotten the metal rimmed pearls and gave them a try.  The small ones where perfect!!!  I think they have an Hawaiian feel to them.  What do you think?  I put together the flowers and Pink and Black layers together first, not sure what I wanted to use for the base.  But when I put the metal ringed pearls onto the flowers, using Vellum for the card base was an automatic.  Yay!

Thank you so much for stopping by today.  I hope you have a great Friday and pre-holiday Christmas weekend!

Paper Craft Crew Card Sketch 89

PPC-089 400px

“I do” really like this week’s Paper Craft Crew Card Sketch #89.  The simplicity of the layout had my design juices flowing as soon as I started playing with my paper.  I decided to go with a Black, White & Silver theme for this wedding card.  I’m a gold person but the black & white just lent itself to going silver, my husband even commented “are wedding rings usually gold?”  I said “yes, but want to mix it up.”

The card base is White White embossed with the Perfect Polka Dot Embossing Folder hinting of the bride.  The bottom is a nod to the groom, the bottom piece is Core’dinations Basic Black (mimic’ing fabric) and the narrow heat embossed strip in Basic Black mimics the satin strip that runs down the outside seam of Tuxedo pants.  The Bride and Groom shoes are from the “Just Married” stamp set and heat embossed on Whisper White with Silver and Black embossing powder.  The sentiment and border (Silver Foil) were die cut from Labels Collection Framelits with the pointy bits trimmed away.  I placed rhinestones on the Bride’s bows for an added touch of sparkle.  The wedding rings are punched first with a 1/2″ circle then center a 3/4″ punch over the previously punched 1/2″ circle to create the band.  I then added an Extra Large Rhinestone with two smaller (medium) one on either side.  Finally, I heat embossed the sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes on Whisper White in Basic Black and cut a “V” in the end for a banner effect.  Happy Embossing!!!
