These cute and fun Sweetest Borders Gift Card Holders were so much fun to create. I shared them in a World Card Making Day event on October 3, 2020. They are over-the-top gift card holders for special gift card giving this holiday season.
When I first saw the Sweetest Borders Die Set in the 2020 August-December Mini Catalog I thought “ooh…..they are so cute”. The Sweetest Time bundle was one of the first items I ordered. I must confess it sat on my desk for a while before inspiration struck. Gift card holders!!! Yes, seeing a gift card holder TV commercial inspired me to create these Sweetest Border Gift Card Holders.
Sweetest Borders Candy Cane & Candies Gift Card Holder
When I started, my first thought was “how am I going to make the candy canes glossy?” Ooooooh……one of my favorite techniques……clear heat embossing. So I clear embossed the Real Red cardstock then fussy cut around the candy canes and candies, leaving narrow connections.
My next decision was what to back the candy canes and candies with, traditional white or something else. Well……you can see I chose Champagne Brushed Foil. When I decided on the foil it made me excited and I was doing my “happy chair dance” when finished.
The inside on this one I kept clean and simple so it didn’t detract from the sweet front. A sleeve allows you to insert any gift card and there is even a little room to write a sweet note to the recipient. Now I’m in the mood for a Starlight mint. Lol!
Sweetest Border Holly Bough Gift Card Holder
My second design is a variegated Holly Bough Gift Card Holder. While on a walk I came across a variegated holly bush. Inspiration was born. (Yay!) It also had glossy leaves so I wanted to incorporate both.
To start I sponged Whisper White cardstock with Garden Green ink making sure it had solid and opaque coverage for a variegated look. Then I patted VersaMark over the entire piece, sprinkled with clear embossing powder, then set with heat. Next I cut with the Sweetest Borders Holly Bough.
The card front was cut with the same Sweetest Borders Holly Bough, then I placed the variegated pieces within the solid front. What a cool effect. I topped the Holly Bough with Clear Epoxy Droplets that I colored with a Dark Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Blends. Okay, okay, this may not mail with just one stamp, BUT, it looks like the berries are popping right off the front. Sweet!
The inside of the Holly Bough is clean and simple as well. I did cut the Bough one more time in Garden Green to cover the back of the front flap. My “Type A” flag flying high. LoL! Using the Buffalo Check Background stamp on both holders gives each a fun “flannel shirt” texture.
