Recessed Panel ~ Sunshine Wishes Flower

Sunshine Wishes Flower 736pxl

My share today is the first of four designs from my Pinkstampagne August Card Class.  I have been wanting to give the Recessed Panel technique a try.  The recessed panel tricks the eye to look like a gate fold but is actually a regular fold.

I have seen many different variations of this fun design.  When I came across Kathy Maurer’s design, her color combination just spoke summer to me.  A big thank you to Kathy!  I did not have the Designer Series Paper or the stamp set she used so I worked with what I had as well as “Carol’ing” it up a bit. Lol!  I just LOVE how it turned out.  The designs and colors in the Fruit Stand Designer Series Paper group are bright and summery.  The Bunch of Blossoms stamp set is chock full of sentiments to fit most any occasion.

BASE:  Start with a Whisper White base (5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″) folded in half.  Place the Fruit Stand Designer Series Paper 1-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ strip 3/4″ from the left side.

SENTIMENT:  [TIP:  Stamp your sentiment first, mine is from the Bunch of Blossoms stamp set in Watermelon Wonder.]  To get the Recessed Panel look you’ll need one each Whisper White panels (1″ x 5-1/2″ and 2″ x 5-1/2″).  After stamping your sentiment onto the larger panel adhere 1/2″ x 5-1/2″ Crushed Curry strips to the Whisper White panels.  Then apply Dimensionals to the panels and place onto the base.  Ta-da……recessed panel!!!  It’s such a cool look and is way easier then I was anticipating.  Lol!

FOCAL POINT:  The flower is created from the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits Die Set, cutting the flower in Crushed Curry and the stem in Garden Green.  [TIP:  Cut the top of the stem a wee bit longer so you have something to attach the flower to.]  Then to add a bit of dimension and shine sponge the flower center lightly with Peekaboo Peach and brush the center with Wink of Stella Clear Sparkle.  LOVE IT!  I popped the flower with a partial Dimensional and glued the stem flat.

I hope you enjoyed today’s fun technique.  Thank you for stopping by today and until next time, Happy Stamping!

Hi Carol, I love this card and I am using it for the extra club party card this month. I have a lot of guests coming and it will be easier with a large group to do! Love the sweetness of it and the fresh colors!! Great job. Your little added touches make it even more special. Thanks for sharing. Georgia Tuttle (way down here in Sutherlin)
