Good Monday morning!
Man-o-man, we had a hot one here this weekend (98 and 100 degrees). That is hot here is Portland, Oregon especially for the first part of June. Fortunately they say after today we are going to be cooling down. I’m looking forward to it very much. 😎 To help take my mind off the heat this weekend I helped a fellow demonstrator with her annual new catalog launch auction. It is fun to see everyone get excited and involved in the bidding wars that ensue. It’s amazing to see people being persistent when they want a stamp set (putting it nicely ~ wink, wink).
Today’s post is one that I designed last month for our local team gathering with items we were able to pre-order prior to the new 2016-17 Annual Catalog launch. I just love seeing what inspires me as well as when I need to “make it work”. [grin]
There’s several things going on to make this simple (looking) design work. You know me, I love to layer and create framing to make things “pop”. In this case it was the sentiment. I created the framing layer with Basic Black and a narrow (1/16″ reveal), if you’d like to know how I achieved this, see below for quick and easy instructions. Also, it needed that all important “sparkle” (of course). To get the black embossing on the sentiment I did a coordinating embossing technique that I also describe below. Oh, I almost forgot to mention my subtle texture go-to technique Faux Suede.
So as you can see, this card appears very clean and simple on the surface, but when you get down to the nitty gritty there is a lot going on the achieve this design. What can I say, Clean & Simple (with lots of details) is what makes me happy!
BASE: First, the Whisper White base was stamped with the Watercolor Wash Background stamp in one of the newest In Colors ~ Flirty Flamingo ink. This color is so pretty, as well as soft & brite at the same time. Next, to soften the look I rounded the bottom corners. Then, I gave the band my favorite quick and easy Faux Suede technique to add a bit of subtle texture. Woohoo!
LABEL: Flirty Flamingo, Basic Black and Whisper White were die cut with the Lots of Labels Framelits. The Flirty Flamingo label was popped with Dimensionals (of course to add height). Then I cut two Basic Black and one Whisper White label. To get the narrow black frame surrounding the Whisper White I cut one Basic Black label in half horizontally and one vertically. Next adhere the horizontally split Basic Black pieces to the Whisper White then the vertically split pieces. After the stamping is complete, this is popped with Dimensionals, as well, to add even more height. More height is a good thing. Lol!
SENTIMENT: To get coordinating embossing here’s a trick I use. First, lightly stamp your image onto a VersaMark ink pad; second, stamp onto your coordinating ink pad (in this case I used Archival Basic Black); third, stamp the image onto the Whisper White label. Then quickly coat with Clear Embossing Powder and heat until glossy. I decided to add the large swoosh from the Painter’s Palette in Blushing Bride, Flirty Flamingo and Watermelon Wonder because I felt the words looked a little lonely. [TIP: After I embossed the words and stamped the “swoosh” I carefully blotted the sentiment to remove the excess colored ink. Don’t wipe or the colored inks will smear – I had the do this part twice because I wiped instead of blotted. Eek!)
I hope you have a great Monday. Thank you for stopping by today!
