Yay! It’s Friday! It’s been a crazy week at our house. They started work on our roof Tuesday morning. We’re having the entire thing reroofed and a couple new skylights installed. We flirted with a couple wet-ish days, but they should have everything buttoned up and complete this afternoon. I hope! There is rain forecast for Saturday so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I don’t have to put buckets out to catch the rain.
Today I have for you the third design from a recent Holiday Catalog swap I participated in. I really wanted to create something that was no where near Halloween/Fall-ish. This design features the Boo To You Framelits and Howl-o-ween Treat stamp set.
CARD BASE: It is actually Night of Navy (oh, yes it is!). Next is Vellum that was embossed with the Softly Falling embossing folder. I know, it’s cool how the embossing makes the dots look white. I didn’t go so far as to put sparkly on each dot. I thought about it, but I had to make 30 and that just wasn’t going to happening. Lol! Vellum shows adhesive, so I put adhesive on the lower portion, behind the snow strips. Speaking of snow, I took a piece of Whisper White and tore a little more then a 1/3 strip and layered it onto the 2/3 remaining strip. I did brush on a bit of Dazzling Details Glitter Glue to the torn edges to add a bit of sparkle. Lol!
FOCAL POINT: When I first looked at all the pieces from the Boo To You Framelits set I turned the skull shape (yes, skull) upside down and instantly thought “that looks like a nap sack”, and that is how this cute card started. After contemplating my Santa, a team member of mine (thank you Kymberli) had come over to visit and we started brainstorming. I think we both looked at the Owl and said “he could be the Santa!” Hi-fives ensued. Lol! Instead of going with an owl Santa (fall-ish) I thought of a penguin. After cutting off his wings, yes, I de-winged him and went from there. The arms are just the longest scallop from the wing with the rest trimmed away at a slight curve. [I’ll create a cutting diagram this weekend and post.] The hat is the top half or so of the witches hat. Which I’ll say I stamped the witches hat from the Howl-o-ween Treat stamp set on the back (wink, wink). Santa’s belly is the skull cut again this time in whisper white, then turned 180 degrees and cut again to create the oval. [TIP: The extra-large oval punch was just not quite the right shape.] The pants are from the bottom of the Owl die. The hat band is the Word Window punch and the pompom is a 1/2″ circle. The eyes are 1/4″ circles and the beak is from the Owl Builder Punch. I chuckled while typing this thinking I used two tools with owls……too funny.
SENTIMENT: They are 1/2″ Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer circles topped with “ho”, “ho”, “ho” from the All Boxed Up stamp set. I made do with what I had in my stash. It was a make it work moment. Yes, I watch Project Runway. Lol!!
Thank you so much for stopping by today. I hope you have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend!
