Good Friday morning! I hope you had a great week. Mine was fun filled with designing simple and pretty projects and getting ready for a private class this Saturday. The host is a regular to my Monthly Card Classes and with the new 2016-17 Catalog coming she was excited to host a private class for her family and friends. I’m so looking forward to us stamping and having fun. Eek!
Okay… I’ve also been playing with some new things from the catalog to share with you. This is my first of two designs featuring the Detailed Floral Thinlits set. My color palette is Night of Navy, Flirty Flamingo and Whisper White. I really wanted the floral shapes to pop and I tried using Designer Series Paper for the die cut shapes as well as the background. Both seemed to make them blend together. So….my “a-ha” moment….when laying the Night of Navy die cut pieces onto Whisper White I was happy with the contrast, but wanted some of the shapes to pop. Well….I cut the same shapes in Flirty Flamingo and placed just the small flower bits into the open areas leaving the large flowers and greenery shapes open. I just love how they all pop, both the open areas as well as the Flirty Flamingo shapes. Aaaaaah. [smile]
Then another of my “a-ha” moments was turning the orientation to portrait and instantly thinking “Ooh….that would make a great gift card holder.” Woohoo!!! Finally, I added a cute new Watermelon Wonder 5/8″ Mini Striped Ribbon band to keep everything neat and tidy.
BASE: Whisper White 4-1/4″ x 11 scored and folded at 3-3/8″ and 8-7/8″. This creates an offset Gatefold Card.
FOCAL POINT: Well I think it’s the Night of Navy Detailed Floral Thinlits card front pieces. Lol! After die cutting both pieces in Night of Navy with the Detailed Floral Thinlits Die Set and removing all the bits. Adhere them to the corresponding sized card front flaps. Then with the third die (an edge) cut away to excess Whisper White edges. [TIP: I tried to cut away to show just the Night of Navy but it left a narrow white edge. I like it better that way. A happy “not quite what I was going for” ending. (smile)] To create the gift card holder, I put lengths of Tear & Tape on either side of the smaller die cut flap. [TIP: I placed a mock gift card before adhering the lower flap to make sure there was a comfortable gap to slide the card in.]
FLOWER INSERTS: Okay I did go a bit overboard and die cut the floral pieces again in Flirty Flamingo. I placed just the flower bit into their respective places. It’s almost too busy but not quite. [wink, wink] I love the color combination and adding a few small rhinestones added just the right amount of sparkle. [To be honest…I so wasn’t about to die cut any more so that was the end of that. Lol!]
SENTIMENT: With so much going on with the floral die shapes I didn’t want something too busy, too big or too small, but JUST right. [grin] So I went the “Happy Birthday” from the Sweet Cupcake stamp set. I stamped it onto a narrow Whisper White strip with Night of Navy ink and punched to length with the new Classic Label punch. Then I layered onto gradually larger strips of Night of Navy and Flirty Flamingo hand cutting the ends to match the punched ends.
BAND: Okay……gate fold cards generally don’t stay closed very well so I added a cute band which is the new 5/8″ Mini Striped Ribbon in Watermelon Wonder. All I can say about this new ribbon is……yummy!
I hope you enjoy today’s design. Thank you for stopping by today, I hope you have a great Friday and weekend.
