Christmas in the Making, Mail Box

Christmas in the Making, Mail Box

The Holiday Catalog is finally live!  Woohoo!!!  Our local demonstrator group organizes a swap with each new catalog.  I always enjoy participating in these and seeing what each person comes up with.  First, we select a stamp set then we create three different design from the set.  I selected the Christmas in the Making Stamp Set.  This is my first of three designs.

HOUSE:  I envisioned someone outside their house checking their mail for Christmas cards from family and friends.  To create the house siding I embossed Smoky Slate with the Pinewood Planks Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  The siding was out of proportion with the lady so I cut each plank in half with my Stampin’ Trimmer and overlapped them.  Basically cutting the plank size in half and BONUS it looks like lap siding.  Perfect!  After cutting the window (from the Hearth & Home Thinlits) I had the same issue with proportion.  I did the same thing with the window frame, after cutting out the center mullions.  Next, I cut the frame in half horizontally and overlapped.  Then I glued the mullions to the frame, trimming away the excess.  The only thing left was the “glass” for the window.  I tried several ideas and finally went with two layers of Vellum.

BASE:  The base is Soft Sky layered with the house.  It felt a bit off, so I added the finishing touch of a narrow strip of Whisper White trim.  Finally, I added a strip of Glimmer Dazzling Diamonds with the top edge torn.

LADY CHECKING MAIL:  I stamped the lady onto Whisper White with Memento Black ink.  I am not good at coloring and avoid it as much as possible.  [To put it mildly.]  This time I pulled by big girl pants up and colored.  Lol!  I must admit I colored as little as possible.  I colored her and the mail box with Pink Pirouette, Soft Suede, Real Red, Old Olive and Crushed Curry.  Finally, I went even more over the top and fussy cut her and the mail box.  I don’t mind fussy cutting so this was kind of therapeutic. (no, really!)

SENTIMENT:  I was brave and to cut apart one of the sentiments from the Christmas in the Making and used only the “Merry Christmas”.  After popping both the lady and sentiment with Dimensionals, the final touch was to add a bit more sparkle.  I remembered Wink of Stella and away I went.  It’s on her hat puff, collar, cuffs and boot bands.  Ooh……perfect!

Thank you for stopping by today.  I hope you come back to see the next two designs.
