Butterfly Basics (April Card Class – 1 of 5)

I hope you had a good week.  It’s been a busy one for me.  Saturday night I had 8 lovely ladies over for my April All-Occasion Monthly Card Class.  We had a great time and laughed AND I embarrassed Derek by asking everyone to sing Happy Birthday to him,  and they did a wonderful job.  I could tell he was a bit embarrassed but was a good sport.  Lol!  I was a little late taking a picture while they sang but I did get one just before he blew out his candles.  Yikes!  Yes, he is turning 50 this coming Sunday.    The cake was so yummy….it was a Banana Mania cake from His Bakery on 72nd and Woodstock.  Hence the name, it was banana cake with slices of balance between the layers and LOTS of yummy whipped cream frosting.  OMGOSH!!!!!  It is just the best cake I have had in a really long time.  Mmmmmmm.  You even have to order a week in advance.

Then, Sunday I scrambled to complete my CraftProjectCentral.com May – Flower Frenzy submission that I needed to turn in on Monday.  I made that by the skin of my teeth.  I would love it if you popped over there next month and left me message.  Let me know what you think of my project(s).  Then I hosted Bunco on Tuesday.  I did relax in front of the TV on Wednesday night and last night we went and saw Cinderella.  All I can say is “Well Done”.  I just loved it!  It just goes to show that you can never go wrong with a timeless story done well.  Now I’m getting ready for Derek’s actual birthday on Sunday.  I’m going to make MANY of my decadent quadruple chocolate cupcakes to take with us to dinner and live music at the Blue Diamond  What a great way to spend Derek’s birthday and end a weekend.

Okay, on to today’s post.  This lovely is the first of five designs we created in April’s Monthly Card Class.  It features the Butterfly Basics stamp set and I decided to go with a Mother’s Day sentiment because it is just around the corner.  Whew, got that one under my belt.  The base is Whisper White, followed by layers of Calypso Coral, Best Day Ever Sale-A-Bration Designer Series Paper (this is one of the THE BEST SAB DSPs we’ve had in a while), and is topped with Sahara Sand that I heat embossed the flower image as well as the sentiment in White.  The flowers, leaves and stem were colored with Calypso Coral and Pear Pizzazz using a Blender Pen.  The layers were offset with the lower right top two layers popped with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Then I wrapped a bit of Organza Ribbon around tied with a knot to add interest and a wee bit more shine.  Finally I added a single small Rhinestone to the center of the flower to give just another hint of sparkle.  A wonderful design that I must say I basically CASE’d with a few “Carol” tweaks from Justin Krieger.
