Geared Up Garage Steampunk Gears

Geared Up Garage Steampunk Gears

When I saw the Garage Gears Thinlits in the 2019 Occasions Catalog I wanted to make a steampunk style card. Of course I checked out Pinterest and found loads of inspiration……gears, distressed vintage, and touches of gold. Today’s share I call Geared Up Garage Steampunk Gears card.

The base started with Smoky Slate layered with Smoky Slate embossed with the Simple Stripes Embossing Folder. I ran it through vertically then horizontally to get the grid effect.

The group of gears in the Garage Gears Thinlits were cut from Gold, Silver and Copper Foils. To bring down the shininess of the foil I lightly rubbed the gears with Stazon black ink. I then went about cutting the gears apart and placing them to mix up the foil colors.

I wanted to keep the sentiment subtle but easy to see. Using two layers of Vellum stamped with StaZon Jet Black Ink. Vellum in easy to see through so the two layers brought the opacity up and then wrapped it around the front layer. This doesn’t show adhesive and popped it slightly. It was a happy accident. Lol!

I had fun creating this gender neutral design and have started worked on another “steampunk” inspired design. Make sure to stop by soon to see my next design.

Floral Romance You are the Greatest

Floral Romance You are the Greatest

Simple designs with wow! are fun to create. It is a challenge for me but I was up for it. I was excited when I found this Floral Romance Velum Designer Paper in the 2019 Occasions Catalog. The strong imagery and Fresh Fig & Mossy Meadow colors inspired today’s post Floral Romance You are the Greatest design.

I started with a Soft Sea Foam base. Next was a Mossy Meadow band with the edges torn, to add a the bit of texture. Then it was embossed with the Subtle embossing folder for another layer of texture. Next I added a narrow layer of Blackberry Bliss popped with Dimensionals. Finally, a layer of Whisper White topped with the same size Floral Romance Velum bands.

Keeping the sentiment clean and simple was my next design challenge. Well……I tried to keep it simple……but had fun with the oval layers from the Layering Oval Framelits, the floral image and sentiment from the Tropical Chic stamp set. Oh……I almost forgot, I spritzed the larger oval with a mixture of Frost White Shimmer Paint and rubbing alcohol. [TIP: Make sure to stamp off the flower image before stamping onto the oval. The Rich Razzleberry is a super rich, saturated color.] I had to add some shimmer somewhere. Lol! Below is the color palette that I used for this design.

Well Said Love You Valentine

Well Said, Love You Valentine

Today’s share one of the designs made in my January stamp class. It is an adorable Well Said Love You Valentine card. I challenged myself to use the Well Said Bundle AS WELL AS the Brusho Crystal Colour. The Brusho Crystal Colour giveS the cool watercolor look effect.

I wanted to create a clean & simple Valentine’s Day card for class AS WELL AS play with Brusho Crystal Colour. I love the versatility of this design. It would be great for a Valentine’s Day, Anniversary, or just as an I “love you” card.

The “love you” is from the Well Said Bundle in the 2019 Occasions Catalog. After I perused the new 2019 Occasions Catalog it was one of my “must have” items I had to get. This bundle includes word images along with lovely script word dies to combine together. Finally, to add additional texture, I used the White Washed design from the Wood Textures Design Series Paper.

GREAT TIP: I cut the “heart” from the center of the watercolor paper before adhering to the base. Also, I cut the “love” from the Copper Foil layer before layering with the White Wash design.

I hope you enjoy today’s clean & simple Valentine’s Day card as much as enjoyed sharing it. Thank you for stopping by today. I hope you have a great day and get your fingers inky!

Happy Birthday Butterflies Card in a Box

Happy Birthday Butterflies Card in a Box

I had fun creating this Happy Birthday Butterflies Card in a Box for my mom’s birthday in December. When I saw the Butterfly Beauty Thinlits in the new 2019 Occasions Catalog I instantly knew I wanted to cut them apart and play with them.

For my mom’s birthday I went over the top designing……Hello! it was for my mom’s birthday and she likes over the top. I hadn’t done a “card in a box” design for a while and thought it would be cute to have to butterflies “flying” out of the box. The bright Melon Mambo and Old Olive for the card in a box base went perfectly with the Sale-a-Bration Lovely Lipstick Foil, Brusho Crystal Colour powders and Butterfly Beauty Thinlits Dies.

Card in a Box: After building the box I felt it needed texture so I went through my Designer Series Paper stash (Lol!) and background stamps. The Burlap Background stamp jumped out at me. After cutting panels to fit the flaps and sides, then stamping with Melon Mambo. I had people asking if it was designer series paper. Cool!!!

Butterflies: The butterfly base started with Watercolor cardstock spritzed with water, then I sprinkled it with Brusho Crystals–Brilliant Red, Gamboge and Yellow. I made sure to not tilt the paper so it wouldn’t mix together, it would stay spotted. After I layered the Lovely Lipstick butterflies onto to the Brusho Crystal base I cut them apart and placed them with narrow strips of Window Sheet.

Sentiment: Sometimes you need to try several different sentiments and what it is stamped on before you find the right look. This was the case for me. There was a small strip of the watercolor piece so I tried that with Mossy Meadow ink. Sweet! Then I layered the “Happy Birthday” onto Mossy Meadow and Old Olive. I Love it!

Piece of Cake 3 Tier Happy Birthday

Piece of Cake 3 Tier Happy Birthday

They are here!!! What’s here??? The 2019 SU Occasions Catalog and Sale-a-bration Catalog! Sweet! When I received my first order I couldn’t wait to start designing. I started with the Piece of Cake stamp set and pretty Gingham Gala Designer Series Paper. I’m call this my Piece of Cake 3 Tier Happy Birthday card.

BASE: The base is Thick Whisper White layered with five 7/8″ x 4″ strips from the Gingham Gala DSP pack (Grapefruit Grove, Daffodil Delight, Lemon Lime Twist, Balmy Blue, Highland Heather). This 1/4″ gingham is beautiful AND the opposite side design……is 1/8″ gingham. Either size I use will add a fun, springy whimsy.

OVAL: The gingham designer paper pairs perfectly with the Stitched Shape Framelits. I selected the Stitched Oval. The stitching adds to the cute feel of the gingham print.

CAKE: With the five colors in the Gingham Gala designer paper I had to put my thinking cap on and decide how to use all the colors in the cake and stand. A-HA!!! I used Grapefruit Grove, Daffodil Delight and Lemon Lime Twist, then Balmy Blue and Highland Heather on the stand. I’m not much into coloring these images allowed me to color minimally OR I could color everything.

I added an additional top tier to the cake image, this gave me the five layers to color that I needed. Woohoo! The Piece of Cake stamp set comes with a coordinating punch for the 2 Tier cake and stand. Double Woohoo, no fussy cutting required!

  • STAMP: Piece of Cake

Spirited Snowmen Tumbling Twist & Pop

Spirited Snowmen Tumbling

I’ve been having fun designing with the Spirited Snowmen stamp set.  This is my third design “Spirited Snowmen Tumbling”.  This “twist & pop” idea came to mind when I came across this stamp set in the 2018 SU Holiday Catalog.

BASE:  I opted for a traditional color palette cuz it made me happy.  (smile)  The “Twist & Pop” base starts with Real Red.  I will be adding my cutting and folding layout soon. [stay tuned!]

FRONT:  Next I layered with Call Me Clover stamped with the same ink and the amazingly versatile Buffalo Check Background Stamp, also in the 2018 Holiday Catalog.  These were topped and popped with the Snowman image and sentiment.

Spirited Snowmen Tumbling

INTERIOR “TWIST & FLIP”:  This is where my idea started.  I saw this snowman and thought OOH he would look cute tumbling and set out to “make it work”.  Yes I know he starts partially tumbled, but if you start with the front then view the inside it works.  [That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.  Lol!]

I finally gave creating an animated GIF file a try.  Then I “Google’d it” and found I could make it with my version of Photoshop.  Woohoo!  After a couple trial and error attempts I created this version.  I’m pretty happy with it.  Let me know what you think.

Spirited Snowmen Love Never Melts

Spirited Snowmen Love Never Melts

I had fun going outside the box with my second Spirited Snowmen Love Never Melts non-traditional color design.  I hope you are enjoying this set as much as I am.

This is simple, straight forward design.  WHAT?  Yup, this card is just that.  I wanted to keep it simple with a bold pop of color, I chose red.

The base is Whisper White, with layers of Basic Black, Real Red and another Whisper White.  The outline image was stamped with Stazon Jet Black and colored with a Basic Black Marker and a Real Red ink pad and Blender Pen.

I liberally spritzed the Whisper White square with a mixture of Shimmer Paint–Frost White and rubbing alcohol before stamping and coloring.  I had a hard time photographing it but it is shimmery in person.

Thank you for stopping by today.  I hope you’ll get your fingers inky and have a great day!

Spirited Snowmen Winter Cheer Skater

Spirited Snowmen Winter Cheer Skater

One of the fun perks of being a demonstrator is getting to preview new catalogs.  When I came across the Spirited Snowmen Stamp Set in the 2018 Holiday Catalog I thought it was just too cute!

I recently participated in a 2018 Holiday Catalog card swap with other local team members.  I went outside my comfort zone and chose the Spirited Snowmen Stamp Set.  With that, this stamp set was the first item on my preorder, another fun perk.  I had a couple ideas pop into my head before it even arrived.  This is the first of three designs I created using the Spirited Snowmen stamp set.

BASE:  I found this non-traditional color combination fun and bright.  With Lemon Lime Twist as the base, next I layered a Lemon Lime Twist rectangle embossed with the Corrugated Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing folder.

SNOWMAN:  This skating snowman is fun and has movement.  As you may know, I’m not a fan of coloring.  Lol!  With minimal coloring I had fun and even enjoyed it.  Next I layered the Whisper White square onto a Gorgeous Grape square then popped with Dimensionals.  The Lemon Lime Twist and Gorgeous Grape combination is bright and great for those non-traditional people in your life.  [smile]

SENTIMENT:  A simple sentiment fits this clean and simple design perfectly.  Which could be used as a Christmas Card or w winter “thinking of you”.  Finally I layered the Whisper White onto Gorgeous Grape then popped with Dimensionals like the snowman.

Thank you for stopping by today!  Make sure to have fun and get your fingers inky.

Takeout Treats Grouping

Takeout Treats Grouping

Have you had a chance to check out the new 2018 Holiday Catalog?  It’s been out for several weeks and my wish list is crazy long.  Lol!

After perusing the catalog several times I finally noticed several “you can make it” groupings.  I thought huh, that’s something new and interesting.  When I started really looking at what these were all about I realized they had created groupings that provided everything needed to create the accompanying projects shown.  Wow, wow, wow!!! were my first words!

It got me thinking “I want to create my own grouping” and that’s how this fun variety grouping of projects came about.

When I placed my first order from the 2018 Holiday Catalog I purchased the Takeout Treats stamp set, Buffalo Check Background stamp and Spirited Snowmen stamp set.  Yes!  that was all the stamps I purchased, along with other accessories, embossing folders and designer paper.  This was even before I had decided to create this group of projects.  So I’m thinking this was meant to be.  Lol!

Here are the items I chose to made up my grouping — Takeout Treats Stamp Set, one set of Notecards & Envelopes, Memento Tuxedo Black Ink Pad, Real Red Ink Pad, Call Me Clover Ink Pad, Blender Pens and Clear Block D.  Yes, everything you will need to create these projects I just listed.  Well, there are few things that you will have in your craft area.  They are scissors, thin metal ruler, post-it notes, sponge (from your kitchen is fine) and a pencil.

This Tiered Z-Fold card was the first design I created.  I had watched Dawn Griffith’s 4-fold card and thought how I could create it with just notecards.  I finally was able to make it work with two notecards.  Woohoo!  It only needs one envelope so that left an unused envelope.  I remembered the oldie but goodie Bag-a-Lope.

Tiered Z-Fold & Mini Bag-a-Lope

The valentine heart told me it could be made into a flower.  Another cool fun fold card in the Card in a Box.  The Call Me Clover green panels are created by taking your Blender Pen and putting green onto your clear block, then spritzing lightly and stamping onto your piece of cardstock.  It creates an amazing watercolor effect!  This one took two notecards as well.  So that left an envelope to turn into another project.  I thought a cute party gift box would be fun.  I used the same bag-a-lope idea but cut the envelope in half and made two small party gift box sizes.  Adorable!

Card-in-a-Box and Half Mini Bag-a-Lope

I finally stepped back into the traditional card box and these fill several more holiday card needs.

The first is the Love You Lots Valentine card.  The double lines behind the hearts are the edges of the clear block inked with Read Red and stamped twice next to each other.  Yes!  Another use for your clear block.

The second is the Thank You Mug.  My trimming the top off the rectangular image you get the shape of a mug and the handle is the edge trimmed away from the hearts on the Card-in-a-Box.  It’s hard to see but there is steam rising from the mug I created this by taking the small grouping of hearts and inking the black ink and stamping off several times then into the card.

The third is the Less Tricks and More Treats Halloween card turning the rectangle image on its side into a Cauldron.  The Call Me Clover is sponged to create steam rising.  Hey, it’s the best thing I could think of for Halloween.

Valentine, Thank you, Halloween

I’m very happy with how my projects turnout with limited supplies and colors.  This was WAY OUTSIDE my comfort zone but I think they are pretty cool.  AND……if you haven’t already noticed, there is no bling on any project.  That’s right NO BLING!  Lol!

I set out to combine the most versatile stamp set, ink pads and paper to create the most varied of projects.  Well, do you think I hit the mark?  With making multiples of each project I was able to create a total of 25 items, yes 25 items.  Hang on……I will share in just a moment.  The “you can make it” groupings in the Holiday Catalog range from $43.50 to $75.50.  My grouping total is $74.00 (plus tax and shipping).  That is $2.96 per item……YES!  If you purchase just one more package of Notecards and Envelopes this drops down to $1.61 for 50 items!  Sweet!

Here are how many of each project can be made.

  • 3 — Tiered Z-Fold Cards
  • 4 — Mini Bag-a-Lopes (perfect for a full-size Hershey’s Candy Bar)
  • 2 — Card-in-Box
  • 10 — Half Size Party Gift Box Bag-a-Lopes
  • 2 — Each of the Valentine, Thank You and Halloween notecards

  • PAPER:  Notecard & Envelope Pack (20 ea)
  • INK:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Real Red, Call Me Clover
