Wood Crate Full of Falling Flowers

Wood Crate Full of Falling Flowers

This wood crate full of “Falling Flowers” was exactly what I had in mind when I first saw the Wood Crate Framelits Die Set in the new 2017-18 Annual Catalog.  I get excited when a new catalog is launched!  Why you ask???  Because I love perusing the pages and being open to inspiration or my imagination.

This crate of flowers makes a wonderful, long-lasting thank you gift for a special person.  Every time they look at it they will think of you.

CRATE:  The variety of wood images in the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper Stack is fabulous and I felt the “white washed” paper would look great with the flowers and greenery.  Sweet!  You will need to cut two pieces from the Wood Crate Framelits Die to make the “crate”.  The Wood Textures Paper is 6×6 and uses two pieces to make a full crate.  I decided to cut off the top band after I had already cut them.  If I realized this beforehand it would have fit on one sheet of DSP.  (duh……just sayin’)

I built this like a “card-in-a-box” by adding two bands lengthwise to the interior.  This way I could attached the flowers to the bands and give height and depth when I placed them.

FLOWERS/LEAVES:  As you can tell I went BOLD with the flowers.  I wanted a fun summer feel and Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie, Old Olive (leaves) and my favorite new In Color Lemon Lime Twist hit the mark.  What do you think?  Lol!

My first layer of sparkle was to heat emboss all the flowers and leaves with Black Emboss Powder.  It ended up being subtle…I love it!  I did fussy cut ALL the flowers, yes there are two layers to each flower (what can I say, I’m a glutton for punishment).

My second layer of sparkle was brushing the narrow petals of each flowers with Clear Wink of Stella.  [I was super stoked to find that I got it to show in the picture!]  The Wink of Stella made the petals slightly darker……a cool side effect.  I popped the centers with Dimensionals for more “dimension”.  [giggle]

My third layer of sparkle is the flower centers.  OMGosh!!! I am over the moon with the FABULOUS new Glitter Enamel Dots.

Okay, on to the stems/leaves.  I did use the May Flowers Framelits to cut them out.  I’m crazy, but NOT that crazy.  [giggle]  Next, I attached the flowers to the stem/leaves and then to the interior bands.  I did cut several extra stems/leaves to fill in and give a fuller look.  Yeah baby!

SENTIMENT:  After some contemplation I decided to keep the sentiment (and band) simple.  I did think about using ribbon but I didn’t have any thing that I liked with it.  What???  Yeah that’s right, I don’t have all the new ribbons…yet…so, there ya go.  Lol!  I went with a narrow Sahara Sand band using the Faux Suede technique to add some ribbon-ish texture.

Finally I stamped the “thanks a bunch” from the Wood Words Stamp Set onto Whisper White with Memento Black Ink.  Next, I punched it with a 1″ Circle Punch, then I layered it onto a 1-1/8″ Sahara Sand punched circle.  Cool effect here……I drew around the edge of the white circle with the side of my Basic Black Marker to color just the edge.  Finally, I popped it with a Dimensional for even more dimension.  [giggle]

Thank you for stopping by today.  I hope you have enjoyed today’s 3-D project featuring the Wood Crate Framelits and Falling Flowers Stamp Set and are inspired to create one yourself.
