Good Monday morning! Have you ever heard the saying “the third time’s the charm”? Will I sure have. Lol! If you follow my blog you know that I have posted two previous versions of a winking face. Neither of them quite hit the mark I was shooting for. BUT I came across this adorable cake on Pinterst (YAY Pinterest!) I immediately pinned it. Then when I was perusing the new Love Sparkles stamp set in the 2017 Occasions Catalog I knew this was the card I wanted to create.
The eyes were in the bag, but the mouth took some contemplating. Then, I had a couple small hearts on my work table and when I went to scoot them out of the way they made this shape and that was my “A-ha” moment. [smile] Finally after looking through my “stash” of designer series paper and found this perfect fit. It is from the Pop of Pink Specialty Designer Series Paper pack. Love it!!! As they say “everything came together” after that. It’s been a while since I’ve done my “happy chair dance” and I did that for 5 minutes. Lol!
BASE: I started with a Whisper White base then layered the top and bottom with Black & White Dots strips from the Pop of Pink Specialty Designer Series Paper. Then for the “face” area I layered Whisper White (4″ x 3-1/2″) piece with narrow strips of Basic Black. [TIP: The narrow Basic Black strips help to frame the “face”.]
EYES & MOUTH: This is where things get cute! I just LOVE how she came out. Starting with the eyes. I used the double petal and small single petal from the Festive Flower Builder punch to create the eye outlines and lashes. Then the eye center is a 1/2″ circle punched from a piece of Basic Black that was clear embossed first. The mouth was created with two small Real Red curvy hearts from the Sweet & Sassy Framelits that were clear embossed first. Then they were placed slightly overlapped for the smooch and popped with Dimensionals. Lol! [TIP: After die cutting and placing the hearts, lightly reheat the edges to smooth them out.
SENTIMENT: The “thank you” from the Love Sparkles stamp set is where this design came together. I envisioned it as freckles on the cheeks. It was stamped with Smokey Slate, then I hand trimmed the nose to fit between the words and popped with a dimensional.
