Christmas in the Making, Ornaments

Christmas in the Making, Ornaments

The Holiday Catalog is finally live! Woohoo!!! Our local demonstrator group organizes a swap with each new catalog. I always enjoy participating in these and seeing what each person creates with their set. First, we select a stamp set then we create three different design from the set.  I selected the Christmas in the Making Stamp Set. This is my second of three designs that I call my Christmas in the Making, Ornaments.  Even though I kept it clean and simple (unlike my first design, you can check it out here) it still gives the 50’s vibe.  AND I didn’t have to color very much.  Woohoo!

TREE:  The card base starts again with Soft Sky layered with a “floor” in Smoky Slate with Faux Suede technique to add texture.  The Old Olive tree is from Santa’s Sleigh Thinlits Dies layered with a Soft Suede pot embossed with the Pinewood Planks Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  I sponged the edges with Soft Suede to add another layer of texture.  Using mini glue dots I placed the Gold Mini Sequins Trims to the tree, zig-zagging back and forth.  [TIP:  Leave enough length so the trim curves slightly.]

Next, stamp the ornament from the girls hand (Christmas in the Making Stamp Set) onto Whisper White six times with Memento Black ink.  Then color them with Real Red and Old Olive, and punch with a 3/16″ circle punch.  Then place them with mini glue dots as well.  Finally, top the tree with a Glimmer Gold star also from the Santa’s Sleigh Thinlits Dies.

LADY:  She is stamped onto Whisper White with Memento Black ink.  Because I’m not into coloring I kept this one very simple.  I colored her with just Real Red, Old Olive and Soft Suede ink and a blender pen.  I also added a bit of sparkle with Wink of Stella on the bottom half of her skirt.  Super cute!  Then I fussy cut her and popped with Dimensionals.  I love her red shoes!

SENTIMENT:  I cut the sentiment apart and put the pieces back together so it would fit into an oval from the Layering Ovals Framelits.  It was stamped onto Whisper White with Memento Black in.

I hope you enjoyed today’s clean and simple design featuring the Christmas in the Making stamp set.  Thank you for stopping by today.  I hope you come back to see my final design.

Spooky Fun Bundle

I have one more “fun” halloween design I’d like to share.  It features the Spooky Fun Bundle (Spooky Fun Stamp Set and Halloween Edgelits Die Set).  These separate or together offer many Autumn/Fall or Halloween possibilities.  I enjoyed the striking look of Kim Price’s design that I mostly CASE’d it with several “Carol” tweaks.  Thank you Kim!

BASE:  I went with a 4-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ size that fit the overall layout perfectly.  It starts with the Whisper White base layered with two Whisper White squares.  I masked the top layer and sponged with Pumpkin Pie ink.  [TIP:  I created a quick mask from leftover cardstock and a “Square” from the Layering Squares Framelits.  The bottom layer was popped with Dimensionals to add visual depth.

FOCAL TREE:  I die cut the tree twice, once in Basic Black and Whisper White.  They were glued together slightly offset, creating a dramatic effect.  Lay the tree onto the card then stamp the bats with Memento Black ink.  [HINT:  If you want to add a bit more shine the bats could be embossed in Black.]

SENTIMENT:  I opted to heat emboss the “have some spooky fun!” sentiment with VersaMark Ink and White Emboss Powder directly onto the Tree base.  I like the subtle bit of shine it adds.  Make sure to use your Embossing Buddy liberally to keep any excess emboss powder from sticking.  Finally, pop the tree and tree base with Dimensional bits to add the final dimension.

  • PAPER:  Whisper White, Basic Black
  • INK:  Pumpkin Pie, Memento Black, VersaMark

Thoughtful Branches ~ Four Seasons

This limited time only bundle Thoughtful Branches was truly an inspiration all on its own.  I started with the Side-Step Apple Trees design, then having the ring of leaves left on my work table I just couldn’t bring myself to recycle it.  So, after several days I had my “A-ha” moment and saw it as a wreath.  Sweet!  After creating the “Summer” and “Christmas” design I said “well heck I might as well make something for Spring and Fall.  After several days of trial and error I rounded out this  fun Four Season set of designs.  I offered a tutorial which included all four designs to my customers when they purchased the bundle.

I enjoy having a great way to be creative and share what I love.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I had designing them.

I have a sparkly Monday!  Thank you for stopping by today.

Santa’s Sleigh – Merry Christmas (sneak peek 4)

Santas Sleigh - Gold Tree 736pxl

Good Monday morning!  I’m happy to report we are cooling down for a couple days before heating back up.  The swinging of tempuratures is throwing everyone around here for a loop.  I have 4-5 co-workers that have caught colds, I’ve been lucky enough to stay healthy.  Yay!  (knock on wood)

Today I have one more design featuring the Santa’s Sleigh Bundle in the soon to be live 2016 Holiday Catalog.  (Sept 1st to be exact)  Eek!  I must confess this was originally my third design for the swap I’ve been designing for.  Don’t get me wrong, I love how it turned out.  I love how the Mirror Image technique looks and the dramatic colors (Very Vanilla & Garden Green).  There’s a BUT though.  Lol!  After having the three designs sitting on my work table for several days I felt they didn’t flow together.  If they were all different that would have been okay.  With the two Soft Sky and Whisper White designs next to this dramatic colored design it just didn’t work for me.  [Type A flag flying.  Lol!]  So I broke out my design mojo again and created the equally soft and coordinating Gold Embossed Christmas Tree which I posted last Friday.

BASE:  After much deliberation I went with a Very Vanilla base and layered the Garden Green strip to the right half.  The “Christmas Tree” image from the Santa’s Sleigh stamp set lent itself perfectly to this long & narrow size card layout.  [My go-to size is 3-1/4″ x 5-1/2″.]  (Squirreling…..I think this would look great in the Soft Sky and Whisper White color combination as well.  [wink, wink])

FOCAL POINT:  This is where is gets fun.  After deciding to give the Mirror Image Technique a go, I went with Very Vanilla and Garden Green.  I was on a roll with gold so I embossed the tree in gold as well.  You will need one in Very Vanilla and one in Garden Green.  Then they are split down the middle.  [TIP:  I made two marks on my grid sheet at the top and bottom of the pieces.  This helped me to line up the tree top and trunk in the middle.]  Another cool thing is this layout gives you two cards, not just one.  Sweet!  Next, butt the opposite images together then wrap with a bow tied with Gold Satin Ribbon.  Then adhere to the base.  [This is tricky, but doable.]  OMGosh…..I almost forgot to mention the glittery star tree topper.  It is from the Santa’s Sleigh Die Set that I cut from Gold Glimmer.  I KNOW……it’s just the right amount of sparkle as well as shine from the gold embossing.

SENTIMENT:  To keep the clean and simple look I continued with the “Merry Christmas” in gold embossing and layered it onto a slightly wider Gold Glimmer strip.  I popped the sentiment with Dimensionals to add a wee bit of height and dimension.  HELLO!  Lol!

Thank you for stopping by today.  I hope you enjoyed today’s design and have a great Monday!

2016 SU Holiday Catalog ~ Santa’s Sleigh (sneak peek 3)

Santas Sleigh - Snow Sleigh 1 736pxl

Hey, hey, hey………Happy Friday!  I am super excited to share my third (sneak peek) design today featuring the Santa’s Sleigh Bundle (stamp and die sets).  It is for one of my 2016 SU Holiday Catalog swaps I am participating in,.  Woohoo!  (It is available September 1st, 2016)

Last Friday I started with an elegant red and gold sleigh, Monday I added two reindeer to pull the sleigh and today I have the tree where the presents have been left by Santa.  This is another clean and simple design with loads of subtle sparkle and shine. (happy chair dance ensuing!)  The gold embossed tree ties in with the reindeer, the gold baker’s twine (Uh-mazing) is used in some fashion on each card, AND the “Merry Christmas” is used on each card so they can stand along or placed together in a trio making a soft sparkly serene scene.  [smile]

Below is the trio placed together to create a lovely scene.  You could place the embossed tree card on either end, but I like to think that Santa just left the presents and is ready to head off to his next destination.

Santas Sleigh Trio

BASE:  Again, I continued with Soft Sky for the base which makes the Tree and Presents pop.  The base is topped with a Soft Sky layer embossed with the Softly Falling Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  Then I took a 1-3/4″ strip of Whisper White and tore a 1/3 strip away, then layered it onto the 2/3’s strip.  First, sponge VersaMark onto the torn edges and heat embossed with a mixture of Clear Embossing Powder and Dazzling Diamonds Glitter before adhering the two strips together.  Shine AND sparkle together.  Sweet!

FOCAL POINT:  All I can say is that “I LOVE” the gold embossed Christmas Tree.  The Cherry Cobbler presents wrapped with the Uh-mazing gold baker’s twine just finish the scene perfectly and help to tie all three designs together.  LOVE IT!  I, of course, had to pop the tree and presents Dimensionals to add that all important height.  [grin]

SENTIMENT:  There are many images as well as several sentiments included in this set.  I decided to stay with the “Merry Christmas” as it suited this clean and simple card perfectly.  I placed the “Merry Christmas” in three different ways as well to give even more versatility.  I also made it pop by layering it onto Cherry Cobbler and tie in with the presents.

I was going for a soft serene scene with the Soft Sky, a little pop with Cherry Cobbler and (most important) shine with the Gold Embossing and Foil.  Did I hit the mark with this trio?  Thank you so much for stopping by today.  I hope you have a great Friday and Weekend!
