Black & White Pearl Peacock

Black & White Pearl Peacock

I had so many ideas floating around in my head when I saw the Noble Peacock Suite. This Black & White Pearl Peacock was a fun use of heat embossing and loads of pearls.

You know I love the Long and Narrow card base. (3-1/4″ x 5-1/2″) This lovely peacock from the Royal Peacock stamp set was a perfect fit for this size. The heating embossing with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder gave this design the first layer of sparkle.

After I embossed the peacock it was still missing something. It’s just a feeling that I had. [smile] My “A-ha” was Basic Jewels Pearls and boy did they finish the perfectly. Okay, here we go with the second layer of sparkle.

After pondering what sentiment to use, I went with “so very proud of you”. I heat embossed it with white and cut the circle using the Layering Circles Dies. To add some height I popped it with Dimensionals. Guess what??? This is the third layer of sparkle. [Woohoo!]

Thank you stopping by today. I hope today’s clean and simple Black & White Pearl Peacock design inspires you to get your hands inky. If you need a demonstrator I’d be happy to help.

Moroccan Nights Medallion (Sneak Peek)

450pxl Moroccan Nights - Golden Medallion Good Monday morning!

Sometimes I see something that inspires me with it’s design and/or color palette.  This was one of those times for both, I came across this Moroccan inspired cake on Pinterest (see below).  This is my second design featuring the new Moroccan Nights stamp set from the 2016-17 Annual Catalog.  Yay! I love a sneak peek, how about you?  A HUGE thank you to Alicia Graham for letting me borrow this amazing stamp set!

EMBOSSING GALORE:  At first I started with the three colors (Tempting Turquoise, Melon Mambo and Tangerine Tango) stamped with VersaMark and embossed with gold embossing powder.  You would have thought that that would have been perfect, but after cutting and layering, the colors seemed to meld together.  After looking at the cake again I decided they needed some separation, so I added gold embossed layers between each color and it worked.  Woohoo!!!

MORE HEIGHT IS A GOOD THING:  Eight layers later this amazing design emerged.  Eek!  Yes, I was a glutton for punishment and hand cut each layer by hand.  HELLO…….Type A flag flying high here.  Lol!  Then I popped each and every layer with Stampin’ Dimensionals for an amazing amount of height and depth.  [smile]  For the finishing touch, if you can believe it, it still felt like it was missing something.  So, I added a large Metal Rimmed Pearl in the center and mini pearls to the surrounding Melon Mambo “petals” to add a touch of sparkle.

I just love this card and I can truly say this will be a “one of a kind”.

Moroccan Nights Gift Bag (sneak peek)

A Moroccan Nights - Gift Bag

Good Friday morning!  I am sooooo excited to share this whimsical gift bag with you today.  I was able to play with a new stamp set Moroccan Nights that will be available in the new 2016-17 Annual Catalog June 1, 2016.  This is the first of three projects I designed with this Moroccan inspired stamp set.

FLOWER PETALS:  When I first looked at the mandala inspired stamp I thought “if I embossed this in white it could look like lace”.  OMGosh……it turned out even better then I had hoped for.  [smile]  I embossed the image onto Vellum four times and heat embossed with white embossing powder.  I must confess I did cut the four “flower petals” out by hand.  Once I got in the groove it went pretty fast.  [wink, wink] To add a bit of color and tie in with the gift bag I lightly sponged the back of the “flowers” with Watermelon Wonder ink.  I just LOVE the hint of color.  Eek!  I was concerned that when I folded the flower in half it might crack the embossing…….it did not.  Woohoo!!!  So…..I folded and stapled the flower petals (to hold their shape).  I applied these to a 1-1/2″ white circle I had laying on my work table with several glue dots to make sure they stuck.  (I probably should have used my glue gun but I was in a hurry and didn’t want to wait for it to heat up.  Lol!)

FLOWER CENTER:  Now this is a rather large flower and needed a large center to be in proportion as well as cover the staples holding the petals together.  I knew I could and wanted to use my Metal Rimmed Pearls.  I had not anticipated needing that many but when I started laying things out with the largest in the middle surrounded by the smallest ones it worked perfectly.  To give the center more substance and tie in with the bag I punched and layered Silver Foil and Watermelon Wonder circles then placed the Metal Rimmed Pearls on top.  This was applied with a couple Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Happy chair dance ensued for several minutes at this point.  [Lol!]

GIFT BAG:  I wanted to make sure the gift bag was substantial enough to support the flower but not overpower it so I went with this size.  I used a 7″ x 10″ Watermelon Wonder piece of cardstock.  I used the ‘Small” scoring and punching marks on the Gift Bag Punch Board.  [TIP:  I like to use Tear & Tape when making bags to make sure they don’t come part down the road.]  I punched two 1/8″ circles about 1-1/4″ from the top and tied on the back side with a piece of Organza Ribbon to hold the bag closed but allowing for it to open with out removing the ribbon or flower. FINALLY……I placed the flower onto the front of the bag with several Stampin’ Dimensionals just below the ribbon.

Thank you so much for popping by today.  I hope you enjoyed today’s project, any comments would be appreciated.  Have a great weekend!

Bloomin’ Heart Happy Birthday

Sometimes you just need an update.  We’ve been in our home for 15 years and I love what we’ve done.  But, eventually you need to update here and there.  We’ve been on an updating kick the past couple of months, starting with our roof.  Earlier this week Derek started work on replacing our kitchen sink and faucet.  Don’t get me wrong, I did love my white sink but it was starting to show some wear and tear.  Here’s Derek working on the sink.  Eek!  Lol!

Sink Demo

At a recent Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog unveiling event we got made several “embellishments” with fun new items.  Woohoo!  Here is one that features the Heart from the  Bloomin’ Heart Thinlits Dies and Love Blossoms Designer Series Paper Stack.  I’m so happy I finally made it into a sparkly Happy Birthday card.

09 450pxl Bloomin Love - Happy Birthday'

CARD BASE:  I was super excited to play with the new Blushing Bride Glimmer Paper.  I went with a Blushing Bride tone-on-tone and I love how the Blushing Bride still pops.  The base is Blushing Bride layered with Blushing Bride Glimmer and Shimmery White.  Hello……the subtle sparkle just makes it.  Lol!

FOCAL POINT:  The heart was cut from the Love Blossoms Designer Series Paper Stack using the Bloomin’ Heart Thinlits Die.  I challenged myself to “make it work”.  [grin – YES, I am a Project Runway watcher.  Lol!]  I topped the heart with several large and small Glimmer flowers that are also included in the Bloomin’ Heart die set.  Very cool.  Well….it felt like it still needed something, so into my embellishment drawer I went and came up with the new Metal Rimmed Pearls.  Perfect!!!  The pearl pair beautifully with the Shimmery White cardstock.

OMGosh!  I almost forgot, the coolest fun tool unveiled in the Occasions Catalog is……the Big Shot die brush and foam pad.  If you haven’t already seen it in action you are going to LOVE it!  It makes removing your cardstock from intriciate die shapes super fast and easy!  I will try and get a video showing this amazing new tool soon.

SENTIMENT:  There are loads of sparkle with the glimmer paper and shimmery white cardstock so I wanted to switch it up with subtle texture.  I took took a Blushing Bride strip and gave it the “Faux Suede” technique.  [TIP:  One of my “go to” techniques.]  Then I stamped Happy Birthday from the Remembering Your Birthday stamp set in Smoky Slate ink.

Lovely Amazing You Meets Build A Bouquet

Lovely Amazing You 01

Good Thursday morning!  I hope you made it through “tax day”.  I’ve had a good week and I got some exciting news to share….I was asked to be a guest designer on CraftProjectCentral.com again.  Woohoo!  You may have seen a couple sneak peeks of two of the four projects I will be submitting for May.  EEK!  I would love it if you could stop by in May (or anytime) and leave me a comment when my submission posts.  (I don’t know yet when it will be posting)  Today’s golden post mixes Lovely Amazing You (available online) and Build A Bouquet (Occasions Catalog) – with Gold Heat Embossing

The base is Soft Sky layered with Baked Brown Sugar and then Whisper White that are popped with Stampin Dimensionals.  The Whisper White square is stamped all over with the “Splotchy” background stamp from the Build A Bouquet stamp set in Soft Sky.  Next I Gold heat embossed the large Flower Center and amazingly enough (no pun intended) it still felt like it was missing something.  So I added the wee-baby sized Basic Jewels Pearls to give the embossing some texture.  Then I punched extra-large ovals in Soft Sky and Baked Brown Sugar to create the sentiment backdrop.  Finally the sentiment is Gold Heat Embossed as well.  I didn’t redo this so I could show you that it doesn’t always look good the first time.  I have to admit that I will be redoing sentiment.  [grin]

Thank you for stopping my today.  I hope you have a great Friday Eve!
