Colorful Seasons Bundle, Copper Fall Leaves

Happy Saturday!  Today I have the second design from my October Card Class featuring the Colorful Seasons Bundle, Copper Fall Leaves.  I must admit that I haven’t played with our new shiny copper items.  Well I remedied that and had fun with this one……Copper Foil and copper heat embossing.  Woohoo!

CARD BASE:  Guess what?  I couldn’t help myself and went with one of favorite card shapes (long and narrow – 3-1/4″ x 5-1/2″).  I started with Crumb Cake and added a 3/4″ band of Early Espresso which I used another of my favorite subtle texturing adding — Faux Suede.  [super cool!]

SQUARES:  Then I topped this with a trio of squares Cajun Craze (yes, this was WAY OUTSIDE my comfort zone, but I love it!) and layered with a Copper Foil square.  Of course I had to pop them with Dimensionals.  Lol!

LEAVES:  This is a really cool technique.  Usually you use a trio of colors (I went overboard and used four – Lol!) Garden Green, Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie and Cajun Craze.  First you need a baby wipe folded into quarters (make sure the baby wipe is smooth and not an embossed image).  Then add three drops of reinker from each color randomly over a 2″-ish x 2″-ish area.  Stamp the leaf onto the baby wipe pressing firmly (just once – clean and reink each time).  Then stamp onto a piece of Very Vanilla.  Repeat this step two more times.  Let them dry for a few minutes.  Now you get to stamp the large leave outline with VersaMark onto the solid leaf [TIP:  Don’t forget to tap & swipe with your embossing buddy so the embossing powder with only sticks to the stamped image.]  Then sprinkle the leaves with the Copper Embossing Powder, tapping off the extra and heat until shiny.

Woohoo……there is a die for this leaf, making it super east and quick to cut out!!!  The finale-ly is popping the trio of leaves with a Dimensional.  Love it!

This design had me doing my happy chair dance!  All the shine, embossing and “more height”……Sweet!  I just couldn’t decide on a sentiment so guess what?  I didn’t add one.  Sometimes you just don’t have to have one.  [smile]

Thank you for stopping by today!  I hope you enjoyed today’s Colorful Seasons Bundle, Copper Fall Leaves design.  Have a great weekend!

Make it Work, Colorful Seasons

Make it Work, Colorful Seasons

I’m excited to share my “make it work”, Colorful Seasons Monday design.  After everyone cut out the leaves from Monday’s post “Colorful Seasons, Autumn Leaves” card in last month’s class the watercolor paper negatives were left.  I knew I wanted to make something with them, so I had everyone put them aside for me.  Usually it takes me awhile to get around the using leftovers, but not this time.

Well, this time I sat down and put this together.  I did need to trim the watercolor paper down slightly to get a nice looking piece.  Then I was contemplating how I could add a bit of sparkle.  I had my a-ha moment and tried flicking my Wink of Stella brush onto a piece of Basic Black.  Amazing!  After popping the leaf sheet with Dimensionals onto the Basic Black the Wink of Stella flecks make the leaf cutouts pop with sparkle.  Yay!

I placed the layers onto the Crushed Curry base then stamped the sentiment onto a strip of watercolor paper with Memento Black Ink.  It’s great how many sentiments are included with the Colorful Seasons stamp set.  Finally, I popped the sentiment with Dimensionals as well.  It needed “more height”.  Lol!

Thank you for stopping by today.  I hope you have a great “make it work” Monday.

Colorful Seasons Bundle, Autumn Leaves

Colorful Seasons, Autumn Leaves

Clean and simple was the motto for my September Card Class.  I tend to go a bit overboard when designing.  [Who me?  Never!  LOL!]  I enjoyed creating this Colorful Seasons Bundle, Autumn Leaves design for my September Card Class stampers.

The oak tree in our front yard is starting to change colors.  It is amazing to watch the entire tree change from green to crushed curry, and everything in between.  I love when it’s full of green, cherry cobbler, cajun craze, pumpkin pie and crushed curry leaves all at once.  All I can say is that tree inspired this design.

BASE:  The clean and simple design has three layers of sparkle.  Yeah, baby!  It starts with a Shimmery White base.  The “life if a beautiful thing” sentiment is from the Colorful Seasons stamp set.  I stamped it with VersaMark ink and embossed with Gold Emboss Powder.

BRANCH:  To give some contrast I cut the “branch” from the Seasonal Layers Thinlits in Early Espresso.  I dotted the branch with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue then placed on the card front.

FALL LEAVES:  The Fall colored, variegated leaves are easy to achieve with Watercolor paper, reinkers and an Aqua Painter.  Put a couple drops of reinker into your ink pad lids and with your Aqua Painter color swatches 1″ x 3″ onto Watercolor paper in Cajun Craze, Pumpkin Pie and Crushed Curry.  Making sure to keep the Aqua Painter wet by squeezing frequently to release water.

Let the colors dry, [or if you like me, impatient] dry with your heat tool.  Then cut the leaves from the Seasonal Layers Thinlits “Small Leaf” die.  Before placing on your card brush the edges with Wink of Stella – Clear.  [Very cool!]  Finally, to add height and dimension place the leaves randomly, adhering some flat and popping others.

Thank you very much for stopping by today.  Remember someone might be in need of a smile.  Receiving a handmade card in the mail box could make their day.  Have a great day!

Warm Cable Knit & Fall Vintage Leaves

2-vintage-leaves-cable-knit-736pxl

I just love sitting in my studio looking out at our Oak Tree this time of year when the leaves start turning.  When its’ in it’s fall glory it is green, yellow, orange, rust and red all at the same time.  It’s glorious!  Today’s share is a nod to this amazing view.  It makes me feel warm and colorful.  It features the Vintage Leaves stamp set, the fun Cable Knit Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and a variety of Coppers from the 2016 Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog.  This was my first time playing with this embossing folder and I have fallen in love with the Cable Knit design and the extreme texture it gives.

BASE:  I started with Pumpkin Pie for the base.  Next, the Rich Razzleberry layer was embossed with the Cable Knit Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  Then I added narrow edge bands of the new Copper Foil for color and shine.  Sweet!

FOCAL POINT:  This is were this design really began.  I wanted to emboss the leaves with the new Copper Emboss Powder.  So what I did was Copper emboss the “various leaf shapes” from the Vintage Leaves stamp set onto Very Vanilla.  These were then die cut with the Leaflets Framelits.  [LOVE it when I don’t have to fussy cut!]  Then each leaf was sponged with Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie and Rich Razzleberry ink.  [TIP:  Afterward, wipe the leaves to remove any excess ink from the embossing.]  Sponging this way allowed for a more variegated look to each leaf.  They were applied with a Dimensional at the tip and flat at the stem (this gave more height and dimension).  Finally I added a few loops of Copper Metallic Thread and a 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon knot.  [TIP:  I cut the burlap ribbon in half so it did not overpower the leaves.]

SENTIMENT:  I tried several different cardstock and ink variations and found the simplest looked the best.  I took a strip of Copper Foil and embossed “thankful, grateful, blessed” from the Paisleys & Posies stamp set with VersaMark ink and Copper Emboss Powder.  The ends were punched with the Banner Triple Punch then popped with Dimensionals.

Thank you for stopping by today.  Please leave me a comment to let me know how it makes you feel.  I hope you have a great Friday and weekend!

Spooky Fun Bundle

1-spooky-fun-bundle-736pxl

I have one more “fun” halloween design I’d like to share.  It features the Spooky Fun Bundle (Spooky Fun Stamp Set and Halloween Edgelits Die Set).  These separate or together offer many Autumn/Fall or Halloween possibilities.  I enjoyed the striking look of Kim Price’s design that I mostly CASE’d it with several “Carol” tweaks.  Thank you Kim!

BASE:  I went with a 4-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ size that fit the overall layout perfectly.  It starts with the Whisper White base layered with two Whisper White squares.  I masked the top layer and sponged with Pumpkin Pie ink.  [TIP:  I created a quick mask from leftover cardstock and a “Square” from the Layering Squares Framelits.  The bottom layer was popped with Dimensionals to add visual depth.

FOCAL TREE:  I die cut the tree twice, once in Basic Black and Whisper White.  They were glued together slightly offset, creating a dramatic effect.  Lay the tree onto the card then stamp the bats with Memento Black ink.  [HINT:  If you want to add a bit more shine the bats could be embossed in Black.]

SENTIMENT:  I opted to heat emboss the “have some spooky fun!” sentiment with VersaMark Ink and White Emboss Powder directly onto the Tree base.  I like the subtle bit of shine it adds.  Make sure to use your Embossing Buddy liberally to keep any excess emboss powder from sticking.  Finally, pop the tree and tree base with Dimensional bits to add the final dimension.
