Happy Birthday Brush Strokes

Happy Birthday Brush Strokes

Today’s share is another of my September Card Class designs.  These bold colors were perfect for this Happy Birthday Brush Strokes design and lent themselves to a masculine theme.  But, it would be great for anyone that likes bright & bold colors.  AND I was excited to sneak in my favorite new In Color – Lemon Lime Twist.  Yay!

BASE:  The card base starts with a trio of “swooshes” in the bold colors of – Lemon Lime Twist, Tangerine Tango and Dapper Denim.  I wanted each “swoosh” to look different, so I scoured my stamp sets and found these that I felt went together well.  They are from Happy Celebrations, Work of Art and Painter’s Palette.

I was looking for a way to ground the left side and decided to trim away 3/8″ from the left side of the card and placed the Dapper Denim strip.  The Dapper Denim strip was placed onto the back inside of the card so it completes the 4-1/4″ width.  Pretty cool!

SENTIMENT:  I do love our “Happy Birthday” thinlits die, but I needed it to be less flourish-y.  [smile] So I went to trimming away the “happy” and flourishes to give a cleaner look. [Compare it to the original and you’ll see.  See……a great way to get a totally different look.]

MINI DOTS:  You know me……I needed to add a bit of shine to the design and this was my in.  I clear embossed scraps of Lemon Lime Twist, Tangerine Tango and Dapper Denim.  Then I punched one each of 3/16″, 1/4″ and 3/8″ circles in each color.  After mixing and placing “just so” like only a Type-A can.  Lol!  I glued them down with a little Multi-Purpose Liquid Adhesive.  QUICK TIP:  After applying them to the card; with your Heat Tool, quickly run it around the edges of the circles to round and smooth the edges.  Very cool!

FINISHING TOUCH:  After I had placed the “Birthday” and the shiny dots it “just felt” that something was missing.  After trying several ideas I finally thought “try a narrow strip of Tangerine Tango between the Dapper Denim and Whisper White.  OMGawd!  That was it!  Happy chair dance ensued.  Lol!

Thank you so much for stopping by today!  I hope you enjoyed today’s bright and bold Happy Birthday Brush Strokes design, and will stop back by soon.  Have a great day!

Hey, Chick Sale-a-Bration (Dude)

Hey, Chick Sale-a-Bration

I’m catching up with postings from my May Card Class.  This guy was inspired by a color challenge I came across several months ago (Bermuda Bay, Peekaboo Peach, Early Espresso).  I couldn’t help myself I wanted to use the Hey, Chick Sale-a-Bration stamp set.  Better late then never, right?  My May class is all about the guys, men, boys and dudes in our lives, this is the first of four guy designs.  The set is retired but you could replace it with just about any stamp set that you might have in your stash.

BASE:  I decided on a square design making the best use of the 6×6 Cupcakes & Carousels Designer Series Paper Stack.  The base is Early Espresso layered with squares of Bermuda Bay and Cupcakes & Carousels Designer Series Paper Stack.  The Bermuda Bay square is embossed with the Hexagons Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  It adds a fun bit of texture to the card.  Then a strip of 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon was wrapped around the front of the card.

FOCAL POINT:  This adorable chick is from the 2017 Sale-a-Bration Stamp Set “Hey, Chick“.  It was stamped onto Shimmery White with Early Espresso Ink and colored using Bermuda Bay, Peekaboo Peach, So Saffron and Daffodil Delight ink.  He was punched with a 2-1/2” Circle and then layered onto an Early Espresso Circle from the Layering Circles Framelits.

SENTIMENT:  “Hey,” and “Dude” from (Hey, Chick and Labeler Alphabet) stamp sets were stamped onto a Shimmery White strip with Early Espresso ink.  (TIP:  For class I had the “U” and “E” on one acrylic block and the “D” on another to make it easier to stamp with only one “D”.)

Thank you for stopping by today.  Have a great Monday and keep on stamping!

Hello ~ Paisley Framelits Fish

Hello - Paisley Framelits Fish

This adorable fish had been sitting on my work table for several weeks waiting for me to make the vision in my head come to reality.  Lol!   This is my version of the Paisley Framelits Fish.  I was inspired by a couple I found on Pinterest (Monique Fielder and Valerie Sanchez).  (Ya gotta love Pinterest!)  But, when I came across this adorable ceramic fish duo I immediately set to work designing my fish.

She didn’t “feel” right placed on a regular card shape so I tried several shapes and created this adorable “hello” fish bowl.  The bowl is the largest circle from the Circles Collection Framelits (vintage).  The top is the fold and bottom was cut away to create the base so it would stand up.  The top lip is an extended Word Window Punch (vintage) strip.

The fish is the largest full paisley shape (extra curly one) with the tail trimmed slightly.  I used the “scalloped” paisley shape for the back fin and a 1-1/4″ circle for the face.  The body, back fin, fins and tail are all from the Paisley Framelits Die Set.  The face, eyes, bubbles and lips are from the Owl Builder, 1/2″ and 1/4″ punches.

Then, I just couldn’t decide what sentiment to use so I went with my standby thought process “keep it simple”.  So I went with hello” from the Thoughtful Banners Stamp Set and included it in the largest bubble.  It’s there but doesn’t detract from the overall look.  Woohoo!

I hope you enjoyed today’s adorable “hello” fish bowl.  Thank you for stopping by and have a great weekend!

Stitched Shapes Framelits & Stamp Sale!

Stitched from the Heart Sale 1

STARTING NOV. 1 you can purchase the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies ahead of their official release in the 2017-2018 annual catalog.  I love the sweet edging the dies create and classic shapes that coordinate with Stampin’ Up! Layering Squares, Circles and Ovals Dies.

Select Stamp Set 25% off Check out the “stitching” the dies create on the “for you” layer!

I have been asked how Stampin’ Up! created the rectangle from the square “stitched” die in the sample above.  Here are the deets:

  • Line up framelit on your paper so one end of framelit and paper are off platform. You only want to cut three sides of the square. Run it through Big Shot.
  • Rotate your paper and carefully line up framelit with cuts of the first run.  Make sure that one end of framelit and paper are off platform, so it doesn’t cut a line down the middle of your rectangle. Then run it through Big Shot.
  • Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies coordinate with the Stampin’ Up! Layering Circles, Squares and Ovals Dies!  Here are approximate sizes of Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies:
    • Circles:  1-3/8″, 1-7/8″, 2-3/8″, 2-7/8″
    • Squares:  1-3/16″, 1-5/8″, 2-1/8″, 2-5/8″
    • Ovals:  1-3/4″ x 1-3/16″, 2-1/4″ x 1-5/16″, 2-3/4″ x 1-13/16″, 3-1/4″ x 2-5/16″.

Thoughtful Branches ~ Four Seasons

This limited time only bundle Thoughtful Branches was truly an inspiration all on its own.  I started with the Side-Step Apple Trees design, then having the ring of leaves left on my work table I just couldn’t bring myself to recycle it.  So, after several days I had my “A-ha” moment and saw it as a wreath.  Sweet!  After creating the “Summer” and “Christmas” design I said “well heck I might as well make something for Spring and Fall.  After several days of trial and error I rounded out this  fun Four Season set of designs.  I offered a tutorial which included all four designs to my customers when they purchased the bundle.

I enjoy having a great way to be creative and share what I love.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I had designing them.

I have a sparkly Monday!  Thank you for stopping by today.
